District Heating Project

Looking at the potential for District Heating in Newhaven

District Heating – Energy Masterplan

In 2015 Newhaven Town Council received funding from Government’s Heat Network Distribution Unit to commission an energy mapping and masterplanning study, in order to establish the technical and commercial feasibility of heat network opportunities across the town centre and surrounding area. Match funding for this project was secured from Newhaven Town Council, East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council, the Green Growth Platform and Veolia.

The company Ramboll, experts in District Heating were awarded the contract and in September 2016 their findings were published in an Energy Masterplan, which identified current and future energy demands in Newhaven, identified potential opportunities to develop heat networks and selected the most promising opportunities in line with the Council’s aspiration as well as commercial, environmental and financial considerations.

The Energy Masterplan 2016 is available here

District Heating – Techno-economic feasibility study

In 2019 Town Council was awarded new funds from HNDU to progress the project to provide a Techno-economic feasibility study along with a project management resource and stakeholder engagement resource. Match funding has been secured again from Newhaven Town Council, East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council and Veolia.

The contract for this latest piece of work will shortly be awarded and more information on the project will be updated on this webpage soon.
