Meeching Hall – Letter to All Residents – 29th Apr 2024
Dear Residents,
Meeching Hall
You may be aware of a number of inaccurate assertions made by a community group across social media and by local leaflets and posters regarding Meeching Hall.
Meeching Hall forms part of a portfolio of four social halls and one office suite owned and operated by Newhaven Town Council. The Town Council is made up of eighteen councillors who are all volunteers and elected to office by you, the residents, to administer and support the Town of Newhaven and the entire electorate wherever possible.
On July 4th 2023, the Town Council resolved to engage a specialist property company to make an initial (Phase 1) assessment and condition survey of this portfolio of buildings in order to develop a Building & Estates Strategy.
Following receipt of these Phase 1 assessments, the Town Council on March 19th 2024, then resolved for the same company to undertake Phase 2, a more detailed piece of work on a range of potential options concerning its portfolio and how the same can better serve the electorate.
Once the Phase 2 works have been completed the Town Council will then consider all potential options regarding any and all of its building portfolio.
Despite the assertions at hand, the facts of the matter are:
A) The Town Council has as yet made no decisions concerning Meeching Hall or any other individual building under its ownership and control,
B) It has not disposed of any building asset within the last 10 years, and
C) The Town Council will make any decision it considers necessary and appropriate for the benefit of as many of the Towns residents as possible.
Newhaven Town Council
