Newhaven Town Council – Co-option Notice

A vacancy has been created in Newhaven, Denton Ward, following the resignation of Councillor Willem Browne, and the Town Council is looking to fill this vacancy by co-option.
Residents are therefore invited and encouraged to apply for this position by completing both an Application and Eligibility form and returning them to the Town Clerk at the details below.
To be eligible for co-option as a Newhaven Town Councillor, you must satisfy (a) and (b) below and at least one of the requirements listed (c)-(f).
a) Be 18 years of age or over: and
b) A British Citizen or a Citizen of the Commonwealth or a citizen of any member state of the European Union; and
c) Registered as a local government elector for the Town; or
d) You have, during the whole of the twelve months preceding the date of your co-option occupied, as owner or tenant, land, or other premises in Newhaven Town: or
e) Your principal or only place of work during those twelve months has been in Newhaven Town, or
f) You have during the whole of those twelve months resided in Newhaven Town or within 3 miles of it.
You should also familiarise yourself with the disqualification restrictions under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972 relating to Bankruptcy Restrictions Orders and Criminal Convictions carrying a sentence of more than 3 months imprisonment, without the option of a fine.
