Newhaven Town Mayor Takes on Marathon Challenge for Local Charities
Your Mayor, Councillor Mark Wardle, is lacing up his running shoes, donning his gym kit and preparing to take on a full marathon, yes, that’s 26.2 miles!
Throughout his Mayoral year, the Mayor will be undertaking a range of fundraising events, community activities and personal challenges, all with the goal of raising as much money as possible for his chosen charities: Homeless in the Havens and The Rainy Day Foundation.
Mark said:
“As Mayor of Newhaven, I wanted my year in office to make a real difference to the people who call our town home. Every mile I run and every fundraising event we hold is aimed at supporting two incredible charities that work to help local people facing hardship. I hope residents, businesses and community groups will get behind my campaign.”
Supporting Those Who Need Help Most
Homeless in the Havens strives to support people across Newhaven. Homelessness can take many forms including those hidden in insecure, temporary or emergency accommodation.
In building relationships with other support providers, they realised there was a gap in on the ground support and a coordinated response to rough sleeping and homelessness was needed. They act as a catalyst and fully support a nurturing, unconditional support environment for people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping in the Havens Community.
The Rainy Day Foundation is a small, not-for-profit organisation founded by a group of Trustees who came together after personally experiencing the impact of suicide. United by loss and a shared commitment to make a difference, they created this foundation to offer hope, connection, and accessible mental health support for people in our community and beyond.
Their mission is to ensure that no one has to face life’s difficulties alone. Through funding affordable therapy and raising awareness about suicide prevention, they aim to make help easier to reach and remove the barriers that so often stop people from getting the support they need.
Funds raised throughout the Mayor’s year will be shared equally between the two charities, helping them continue their work across the Newhaven area.
