What is Sussex Day?
Sussex Day is an event aimed towards celebrating the rich culture of Sussex. Local businesses, groups, acts and charities all get together in one large family friendly celebration throughout the day. Did you know Sussex has its own flag? Come and join a Sussex Day like never before and find out…what makes Sussex…Sussex!
From 1-6pm, take part in a yoga, self defence, Thai dance or bubble workshops, listen to local acts and enjoy a drink at the bar, or take a browse through local businesses stalls, join a chess competition, craft your own jewellery and more. The day usually involves raising the Sussex Flag, reciting the Sussex Charter and playing the unofficial Sussex Anthem ‘’Sussex by the Sea’’. This year ‘’Sussex by the Sea’’ will be performed by talented jazz trio ‘’Amuse Manouche’’.
Sussex day was officially recognised in 2007 by Henry Smith of West Sussex County Council. It is an official day to recognise the historical and cultural values of Sussex. Sussex Day coincides with the feast day of St Richard of Chichester, who was known for his strong moral and stance against corruption.
